Arjun Kapoor was supposed to play the titular role in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Kabir Singh but destiny had some other plans. Believe it or not, the Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy was initially offered to the Namaste England star, however, he backed out of the romantic-drama due to a complicated situation. As Arjun walked out of the film, it was Shahid Kapoor who stepped into his shoes to play Kabir Singh, which is now a blockbuster. Coming back to Arjun Kapoor's ouster from the film, the actor recently mentioned that the producers, Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde, had him in the mind when they bought the rights. However, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga had already committed to Shahid Kapoor.
"It did not reach that stage where I could choose or not. When the rights were being acquired by (producers) Ashwin (Varde) and Murad (Khetani), who made Mubarakan, they acquired keeping me in mind. Sandeep Vanga, the director had met Shahid and he had seen the film before and they decided to do the film together," the actor revealed at a recently held event.
Apart from making this revelation, Arjun was all praises of Sandeep and credited the massive success of Kabir Singh due to his vision. He said, "Sandeep is the director of the film and he had a clearer vision of the film and without him, the film wouldn t have been what it is now. Fundamentally, films chose actors and directors but in this case, the intent was right from our side and we couldn t combine it. It doesn t mean I left it or I did not choose it. It is complicated. There are human emotions and decisions and a lot of things come into the picture. The director wanted somebody else because he had committed it to someone. It was not that he said, you can t do it . My impulse stays right as I selected the right material but then you move on in life."
As far as the film is concerned, Kabir Singh opened to both positive and negative responses from critics and audiences. Despite the criticism, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial shattered many records at the box office by raking in Rs 275 crore.
