Siddharth Anand's War featuring Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Vaani Kapoor has turned out to be a winner at the box office from the first day itself. According to the early estimates, the action-thriller has got a bumper opening of about Rs 50 crore. With that, Hrithik and Tiger's War has managed to beat Salman Khan's Bharat to become the highest opener of 2019. Apart from that, Tiger Shroff has got the biggest opener of his career with War, as the film has surpassed the day one collection of Baaghi 2 (Rs 25.10 crore). Needless to say, Tiger must be overjoyed with the success of his film from day one.
A few days ago, when we asked Tiger about his thoughts on War beating Bharat's opening day box office numbers, he had said, "I haven't thought of that (WAR beating Bharat's opening day numbers). More than big numbers, I want people to appreciate our film, not just the spectacle but also the story." Reacting to the hype around his action-thriller, he added, "I am very grateful for the love. I know there is pressure and expectation we have to meet up to but then we're very happy with the final product. What people have seen in the trailer is just the tip of the iceberg."
Meanwhile, in a 3.5 star review for War, our critic Urmimala Banerjee wrote, "Hrithik Roshan is hot but what is even hotter is the work of the action directors of the film. Paul Jennings' choreographed car chase in the Arctic Circle of Finland is simply wow. The same goes for the pulsating bike sequence in Portugal. It looks straight out of a motorbike Grand Prix. Coming to the actors, Hrithik Roshan drives the film with his charisma. We are sure some of the scenes will have separate fandoms. He is looking smoking hot. And Anand has captured him with a lot of love. His Kabir is cool, intense and wry at the same time. Tiger Shroff matches his mentor in every frame, especially in the action sequences."
